The Purpose
A side yard doesn’t have to be a forgotten strip beside the house. For this Brooklyn home, it became a little hideaway: a patio tucked along the side of the house, with a cozy place to sit and greenery all around. We designed the space to feel like a quiet garden corner. A neat patio gives the yard a purpose, and plants along the edges soften the walls and bring in color. The homeowners now have a private spot just steps from their door, perfect for a morning coffee or a few minutes of fresh air.
The Challenge
Long and narrow, a side yard leaves little room to work with. The challenge was to create a patio that feels comfortable and complete in a tight footprint, while keeping the space easy to walk through and simple to care for.
